Twenty Years and Beyond: Noah's Ark Commemorates its 20th Anniversary

In 2016, Noah's Ark Art Gallery turned 20 years old. Founded in 1996, its aim was not only to become a commercial art center, but also an art institution which will encourage young talented artists and will promote high-quality art.

This coincided with the 25th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Armenia and 33rd anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Lebanon.

In cooperation with Solidere and under the patronage of H.E. Mr. Samvel Mkrtchyan, Ambassador of Armenia to Lebanon, the exhibition titled Twenty Years and Beyond was opened in the Jeweler's Souk in Downtown Beirut, on November 21, 2016 at 6:30 pm. Among those present were Lebanese officials, diplomats, the Armenian Ambassador H.E. Mr. Samvel Mkrtchyan, journalists, members of the Armenian community and art lovers.

In his opening speech, owner and director Dr. Mosses Hergelian welcomed the guests and proceeded in presenting 20 painters and 5 sculptors that were chosen for the exhibition. Some of the artists were also present for the opening, such as Assadour, Gevorg Yeghiazaryan and M. Mazmanian.

Dr. Hergelian expressed his gratitude to the Embassy of Armenia in Lebanon for its support of the gallery since its founding. He also thanked Solidere for providing the exhibition hall and in encouraging Lebanese artists of Armenian descent. Finally, Dr. Hergelian thanked the members of the Armenian community, as well as its friends and art lovers for their support of Noah's Ark, and vowed to continue promoting Lebanese and Armenian art both at home and abroad.

Afterwards, Architect Mr. Paul Sarkissian took the stage, who stressed on the strong relations between Lebanon and Armenia: "Both countries are rich culturally, and their ties are strong thanks to their cultural contributions, more so than the politics and economy. After the Armenian Genocide, many Armenians found a new home in Lebanon, who welcomed them in open arms. The contributions to Lebanon was immense in the political, economic and especially the cultural spheres. One such example is tonight's exhibition, through which Noah's Ark depicts both Lebanese and Armenian artists who create bridges between art and society as well as between Lebanon and the world," said Sarkissian.

Ambassador Samvel Mkrtchyan in his turn congratulated Noah's Ark Art Gallery on its 20th anniversary, wishing further success and achievements within the international art world. He noted the importance of promoting Armenian art and culture in a highly globalized and competitive art market, and the support that the Armenian state and embassy continues to provide to all emerging and talented Armenian artists.
